Discover Mini Volleyball - in Schools!

The Discover Mini Volleyball school program includes the use of After School Camps, free half-day clinics, and inter-school tournaments.

After School Camps:

These are nine-week, after-school camps where student athletes register to participate. The program provides the opportunity for children to play the game of mini-volleyball on a weekly basis directly at their school. Camps are offered mainly from 3:30-5:00pm. However, there is some flexibility. The primary focus of these camps is participation rather than competition.

The cost of the program is $75.00 per athlete. All participating athletes receive a camp t-shirt, teachers receive a copy of the lesson plan and CD along with a subsidy for the purchase of sport equipment.

All funds generated by the After School Camp program are deposited into the NMVA Facility Fund. Revenue generated by the fund is used exclusively for the purchase of equipment, renovation and/or purchase of indoor and outdoor facilities.

Free Half-day clinics:

NMVA school clinics are a great opportunity for both the student and teacher to learn the fundamentals of the game. Clinics focus on two distinct goals of the Discover Program: Teach the fundamentals of the game while integrating skills-based competition; and how to prevent the development of poor habits and overuse injuries.

A certified instructor attends the school to provide the clinics during scheduled physical education classes. The program is intended for students in grades 2-6 and includes different levels of play that increases the level of difficulty along with improved mastery of the skills. Clinicians are primarily well-trained university student-athletes who will accommodate as many classes as the school wishes during the half-day he or she is scheduled. Classes should not have more than 30 students and a teacher must be present at all sessions. Clinic details include:

  • Maximum participation per class: 30;
  • A teacher must be present at all classes;
  • NMVA coaching CD is provided at no cost;
  • Length of each session: 30-45 minutes per class;
  • A Volleyball Canada mini-volleyball Instructor's Guide is available for purchase.

School Jamboree:

A Mini-Volleyball Jamboree is a half-day event in which students play mini-volleyball in an inter-school environment and experience the excitement of participating in the sport in a competitive setting. Each team is guaranteed at least three games during the event, with each game played over a 20 minute period. Girls, boys and mixed teams can participate and the primary focus is fun.

Please contact your local minor volleyball association...
