Discover Mini Volleyball - Community Participation Program

The Community Participation Programs adopted by the NMVA is based on the successful mini-volleyball program that has been delivered by the WMVA in Winnipeg over the past ten years. These include the use of Development Camps, Leagues and Tournaments.

Development Camps

Twenty years ago soccer went largely unnoticed in North America. Today the sport has been played by most young children at one time or another. This incredible growth of the sport was not achieved by increasing the number of leagues, but by increasing the number of development camps and making participation in the camp obligatory to all community coaches.

Mini volleyball development camps focus on developing volunteer parent coaches and not only the athlete. These are generally nine week camps that are held during the fall season. They end with a season-ending tournament at which time athletes are placed on teams with assigned parent coaches.the winter session is a nine-week league that ends with a season ending league championship.

Highlights of the program include:

  • Team jersey;
  • Quality instruction from qualified instructors;
  • Team outings to university matches and/or local sponsors;
  • Awards at a season-ending tournament (mid-December);
  • Volunteer coaches benefit from a half-price registration fee for their child.

Mini Volleyball League Play

Mini Volleyball indoor leagues are generally held during the winter season. and are also nine week programs that end with a season-ending Championship Tournament.

Highlights of the program include:

  • Team jersey;
  • Awards at a season-ending tournament (mid-March);
  • Team outings to university matches and/or local sponsors;
  • Coach and individual athlete awards at club wind-up (mid-April);
  • Volunteer coaches benefit from a half-price registration fee for their child;
  • Well-defined progression to allow for more difficult play once skills are improved.
  • A standardized code of conduct for all coaches and athletes - both club and youth league.Athletes separated by athletic ability not only their age.

Mini Volleyball 3 on 3 Festival

The mini volleyball 3 on 3 Festival is a summer program to encourage participation in the sport. It is an outdoor event intended as a grass-court tournament. The goal is to incorporate a Mini-Volleyball Festival with an existing community Festival such as an outdoor Volleyball Tournament, other sporting event, Ribfest, or amusement park.

All funds generated by a MiniVolleyball Festival are deposited into the NMVA Facility Fund. Revenue generated by the fund is used exclusively for the purchase of equipment, renovation and/or purchase of indoor and outdoor facilities.
