What is a RSS Feed? How to view RSS?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries, news headlines or podcasts. An RSS document, which is called a "feed," "web feed," or "channel," contains either a summary of content from an associated web site or the full text. RSS makes it possible for people to keep up with their favorite web sites in an automated manner that's easier than checking them manually.

RSS content can be read using software called an "RSS reader," "feed reader" or an "aggregator." The user subscribes to a feed by entering the feed's link into the reader or by clicking an RSS icon in a browser that initiates the subscription process. The reader checks the user's subscribed feeds regularly for new content, downloading any updates that it finds.

The initials "RSS" are used to refer to the following formats:

* Really Simple Syndication (RSS 2.0)
* RDF Site Summary (RSS 1.0 and RSS 0.90)
* Rich Site Summary (RSS 0.91)

RSS formats are specified using XML, a generic specification for the creation of data formats.

Sunday camps now confirmed. The WMVA is pleased to announce that its Fall Camp series is back for another season.

This edition of the camp will be the seventh year fall camps have been offered to Winnipeg youth by experienced WMVA instructors.

Originally launched to offer athletes who failed to make their school teams an opportunity to catch up to their peers, the camps became an instant hit with club athletes who informed us they simply wanted to come out once a week and, "work on their fundamentals".

Simply put, the school season is so short coaches have no choice but to get right to team play. Therefore, more skilled players have appreciated the opportunity to come out and work on the basics.

This season the camps will only be available on Sunday afternoons and we do not anticipate expanding the camp so be sure to register early!

WMVA withdraws from Club Volleyball View Full Story Minimize
Posted: June 03, 2010 | WMVA

WMVA will no longer offer club volleyball programs. The WMVA has been involved in club volleyball for the better part of the last decade. We have done so with the anticipation of forming a board of volunteers to oversee our programs and aid in their growth. Although we have enjoyed the support and encouragement of numerous parents over the years, we could never achieve our goal of establishing a volunteer board.

A second objective of ours was to establish a “Facilities Fund” like the one developed by Winnipeg Youth Soccer. That fund has allowed them to secure community and government support to build their own facility at the University of Manitoba. Our being involved in club volleyball has only served to divide the volleyball community and we wish to rectify that.

As of this moment we will no longer be involved in club volleyball in any way. We have begun removing all details of our River City Volleyball Club from our website and will list all Winnipeg-area clubs once that is complete. We will also be e-mailing all our coaches the contact information of every club in the city and ask them to contact those clubs they would most be interested in working with.

The WMVA will now focus on growing its mini-volleyball programs, recreational indoor leagues and camps (summer, fall, winter and seasonal).

The WMVA will continue to promote participation in club volleyball to all athletes that wish to pursue the sport at a more competitive level. That being said, this will be done without prejudice by referring all young athletes to the WMVA website for a list of all Winnipeg-area clubs.

We would like to thank our many parent volunteers and club coaches for their hard work and commitment over the years.

River City Selects teams dominate at SaskCup. It was another great weekend for the River City Volleyball Club as the U16 Selects and U15 Selects finished 1st and 2nd respectfully at the Asics Sask Cup in Moose Jaw, SK.

Both teams played consistently strong volleyball throughout the 2 day, 17-team event defeating quality teams from clubs all over Saskatchewan. Both teams faced off in a thrilling 3 set Final.

It was a wonderful finish to February as both the U16 Selects (Coached by Luc Tremblay, Kevin Roorda, and Stephanie Dyck) and U15 Selects (Coached by Luc Tremblay and Andrei Halkewycz) showed continued improvement as they prepare for the start of the 2010 Club Volleyball Season.

This was also the second time in as many tournaments that the two teams finished 1st and 2nd at a U16 event.

Well Done Ladies and Good Luck with the rest of your season!

Too many athletes to properly short list. Due to the large number of participants, the WMVA will not be short listing athletes during this week's ID Camps.

The process of short listing athletes would require larger facilities or smaller numbers, otherwise the feeling of coaches is that it would be unfair to athletes to be prevented from returning at this time.

Therefore, we encourage all athletes to return to our ID camps as often as they wish to ensure they get on a team.

Best of luck to all athletes.

How to Register for regular updates. Few parents appear to understand how RRS Feeds work and how helpful they can be.

Both our "Announcements" and "Recent News" are available in Really Simple Syndication or RSS Feeds.

Anyone can subscribe for any RSS Feed and these include Blogs or Announcements from various web sites.

To subscribe for our RSS Feed simply click on the orange box icon between the house and printer icons on the top right hand of the page. A new page will then open and ask you if you wish to subscribe.

To retreive your RSS Feeds you simply need to click on your favourites icon (large star on the top left side of the page) and then click on the "Feeds" icon. And remember, you can subscribe to as many RSS Feeds as you would like. It's much easier to click through subscribed feed to see if there are new announcements rather than visiting the web site regularly.

Official Opening Club Volleyball tournament season. With the start of March comes the start of the Club Volleyball Tournament Season.

With the early season events behind us most teams can now find themselves in tournaments almost every week-end from here until nationals.

The Junior Bison 16 Open was an example of one of the many tournaments that were held this past week-end. And, if the early season events were any indications, the final four will be a battle between Selkirk Royals, Winman and Cobras, all of whom are chasing the early favourites, "Junior Bison 16 Black". The team has captured it's third straight gold medal.

Congratulations to the Junior Bisons and remember there is a lot of volleyball still to be played. If your team has yet to crack the top four don't count yourselves out. There's plenty of time to catch up.

Junior Bison White team finish fourth at Sask Cup! The girls played great this weekend - though we lost in the third set of the bronze final (tier one) against the Radz.

Our best game was against JCVC (semi-final). Scores were 23-25, 28-26, 9-15 but the JCVC team is loaded with girls (entire starting line) who are all signed with University and College teams and they have played together for a few years.

We had a lot to be proud of and our girls played their hearts out. The ref came up to us after and said that our game was a treat for him to ref and that it should have been the gold match.

We ended up playing the top Radz team in the bronze match - and we played well, but not as good as we did against the JCVC team. We went three sets against the Radz, but just couldn't pull off the win - mostly serving errors in the third set were the only reason we lost.

All in all the girls and Chelsea were happy with the weekend.
