The Winnipeg Minor Volleyball Association (WMVA) was founded in 1999 by Luc Tremblay, John Tremblay, and Scott Koskie, along with the help of numerous national volleyball team players and volunteers. It began by offering mini-volleyball leagues and now offers indoor and outdoor (beach) league-play, seasonal development camps for boys and girls of all ages as well as elite volleyball development with camps and club volleyball.
Since the launch of the WMVA ten years ago Winnipeg youth have grown to become regarded as the most competitive in the country. With national championships from U13-18 there are several opportunities in which young volleyball athletes can measure their progress on a national stage and Winnipeg athletes have clearly developed into a force to be reckoned with. And many of these athletes can trace their start to WMVA programs.
With key partnerships with the University of Manitoba Women’s Volleyball program and the Manitoba Volleyball Association (MVA) the WMVA expects to expand its partnerships to include new relationships that will include the involvement of several area businesses. Doing so will help guarantee the future of the organization and its programs, not to mention help keep Winnipeg the competitive centre of volleyball in this country.
During the upcoming 2009-2010 season, the WMVA will begin implementing a promotional initiative it hopes will allow for the start of new relationships with Winnipeg-area businesses. |
