FAQ's: Beach Leagues

What is the cost? The cost for the upcoming 2007 Beach volleyball season is $45.00 per athlete per team.

What is the registration process? Simply register online by completing our registration form. OUR REGISTRATION PERIOD IS NOW OVER!!!

Can we register for more than one team? Yes. You may, for example play on a 15 & under team if you are born in 1991 and also on a 16 & under team. It is $45 per team you are registered with.

Can I register my son/daughter alone (with no team)? Yes. You may register your son/daughter without a teammate and have him/her attend our Open Houses during mid-June and we will match-up players looking for teammates at that time. However, if we are unsuccessful in finding him/her a team a refund will be issued.

How long is the season? The league runs for 8 weeks starting the third week of June. Then we have "rain week" where teams make up lost matches and we have our season ending play-off on the third week of August.

When are games played? They are played weeknights (Boys - Tuesdays: Girls -Thursdays).

Where are games played? All games during the 2007 beach season will be held at the Cavalier Hotel, 1650 Regent Ave. West.
When and where are practices? During the 2006 beach season teams practiced on off nights and week-ends. No organized practices have been planned for the 2007 season.

What are the age classes? According to Volleyball Canada guidelines the age of the athletes is calculated by the age they are going to be during the year. That is, girls 14 & under would mean girls turning 14 anytime in 2007. Therefore, our age classes are as follows:
14 & Under - born in 1993 & 1994:
15 & Under - born in 1992;
16 & Under - born in 1991;
18 & Under - born in 1989 & 1990.

How many athletes on a team? 14 & under age class plays 3 on 3 and teams should consist of four athletes. Older age classes play 2 on 2 and should consider having a spare depending on the availability of the athletes throughout the season. Remember, spares rotate in when teams change sides.

Can teams have coaches? Yes. Although this is a recreational league, there is the opportunity for athletes to go on and play Beach Provincials and Beach Nationals. If athletes do have coaches they must remember that coaches are not permitted to provide their athletes with any coaching during play. They can, however, talk to their athletes during breaks.

Are coaches certified? No. There is no certification requirement for WMVA league coaches. In fact, the indoor certification process is generally accepted as adequate certification for beach coaches.

Are teams tiered? Teams will be tiered if the number of participating teams allows for it. We require 8 teams per tier.
How many tournaments are scheduled? The WMVA Youth Beach League only includes the season ending tournament which is also held on the evening the league plays on. However, a number of youth tournaments are offered during the summer. Please visit our "TOURNAMENTS" page for a listing.
